She is also certified in software testing(ISTQB) and a certified Business Development Manager in TeleManagement Forum(TMF). She is part of a team who is a proud recipient of 1. ‘India Testing Award’ in 2016, 2017 & 2018 2. ‘The European Software Testing Award’ in 2017.

Here’s what Poornima has to say..

What inspired you to develop this topic as a talk?

Every time we speak of automation we would always think/hear of automating repetitive test execution activity. With so much advancement in technology why nobody thinks of automating the repetitive activities involved in test planning, may be because of the human thinking processes involved in it. That inspired us to come up with this brilliant idea.

Hence we conceptualized the idea of automating test planning by reverse engineering the models for existing test cases. We did trial this idea with 2 tools existing in the market, but because of the high complexity in our stack the tools failed to give results. This is when we started to build an in-house tool and now the tool has evolved and has wonderful capabilities which would make a Test planners life easy. This tool, hence gives me a sense of achievement. So presenting this tool in UKStar, may also trigger a similar thought process in intuitive testers mind.

One tip for anyone starting out in software testing?

My basic tip for anyone starting out in software testing is to always place yourself in the customer’s shoe for the software you would be testing. This would help in testing better and also providing a software which is customer centric.

If you were on a deserted island and could only bring one item with you, which would it be and why?

My Handbag/Purse – As they say “A woman’s mind is as complex as the contents of her handbag; even when you get to the bottom of it, there is ALWAYS something at the bottom to surprise you!”

What is the future of software testing?

Software Testing has been transforming drastically in the last decade. Everyone is now adopting Shift Left, look right, model based testing, automation, BDD. Since we are the pioneers in adapting the changes in technology, this is one such question which drives me and my team to strive forward for the next big thing in testing.

In my view, quality is a never ending subject and the most demanded customer experience attribute. Software testing will evolve all across the technological advancements and stamp a unique place in an IT lifecycle.
